VEX Robotics Fall Competition Held at Vaughn
Vaughn’s 2016 VEX Worlds Robotics Champions hosted a fall practice scrimmage at the College on Saturday, December 10. Teams from four colleges in the northeast came to Vaughn to hone their skills and strategy before participating in qualifying matches in the spring.
New York Institute of Technology, New Jersey Institute of Technology, IFT Robotics and Bergen Community College brought eight teams to Vaughn making a total of ten competing teams. Bilal Rashid ’19 president of the robotics club opened the event and served as announcer for the day while club members assisted visiting teams. The event began at 9 a.m. with check-in and robot inspections followed by skills challenges and qualification rounds.
Vaughn’s President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo and Engineering and Technology Department Chair Dr. Hossein Rahemi were in attendance to witness the event and provide support to Vaughn’s teams. The IFT Robotics Team R from Coral Springs, Florida was named the tournament champion.
“The scrimmage was very educational,” Rashid said. “In fact we learned a lot from the other teams and they learned from us as well.”
VEX 2017 challenge is called “Starstruck.”
