Vaughn’s Avila Named Rookie of the Week

Freshman guard Rupy Avila was named Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance in Vaughn’s 80-48 win over Culinary Institute on Sunday (January 9).

Avila scored 21 points against Culinary in Vaughn’s only game of the week. He connected on 9 of 13 field-goal attempts and added five steals and five assists.

Avila is the third Vaughn player to receive Rookie of the Week honors. Al-Ameen Kabba was honored for the week of November 11; Joe Douglas was honored for the week of November 23.
