Vaughn Students Share Piloting Insights
Vaughn College students Erika Barcenes and Camila Turrieta were among the featured speakers March 12 as a pair of Girl Scout troops from Queens visited the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in Manhattan.
Troops 4993 and 4989 from Howard Beach were celebrating national Girl Scout Day as part of Women’s History Month. Barcenes and Turrieta discussed their experiences at Vaughn, pursuit of their careers as pilots and more. Turrieta is president of Vaughn’s chapter of Women in Aviation; Barcenes is its public affairs officer and presidential adviser.
“It was all designed to raise awareness about aviation,” Turrieta said. “Most of them didn’t know much about the different career paths in aviation.”
Turrieta and Barcenes were profiled for their efforts in a recent edition of the Queens Chronicle. Click here to read the article.
