Vaughn Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Artificial Intelligence in Aviation
In partnership with the Queens Chamber of Commerce, the College hosted an engaging panel discussion spotlighting the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in aviation. The event brought together key leaders from LaGuardia Gateway Partners and John F. Kennedy International Air Terminal (JFKIAT) to explore how AI is reshaping airport operations as the industry experiences record passenger volumes and an ongoing demand for skilled aviation professionals.
In the first panel, moderated by Samantha Liebman, NY1 News transit reporter, Suzette Noble, chief executive officer of LaGuardia Gateway Partners, and Roel Huinink, president and chief executive officer of JFKIAT, discussed how AI is enhancing the passenger experience. From tracking luggage to optimizing security checkpoint operations, AI-driven solutions are revolutionizing behind-the-scenes processes. “In the early hours of the morning, we use AI to determine the need for additional security lanes, keeping lines moving and improving passenger flow,” said Noble.
AI’s applications extend beyond security. Noble noted how digital tools are reducing lost luggage incidents, including strollers and wheelchairs, and enhancing customer service through digital assistants embedded on LaGuardia Terminal B’s website. Similarly, Huinink emphasized the role of AI in streamlining employee management and training, ensuring operational efficiency.
In the second panel, the audience heard from local entrepreneurs Tuvi Cohen, vice president of LandSkyAI and co-chair of the Queens Chamber’s Technology Committee, Mike Gabour, founder of Data Alchemists and Steven McCory, sales director for Virtual Guarding. The panel was hosted by President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo and Tom McFarland, president of TeamLogic IT.
