Vaughn Hosts Annual Convocation Ceremony
On Wednesday, May 13 the Vaughn College community, along with proud family and friends, gathered in the main lobby to celebrate the academic achievements of this year’s top students. The convocation ceremony featured academic awards in the categories of engineering, technology, management and aviation and also presented awards in athletics, exceptional service and specialty categories.
Dr. Paul LaVergne, vice president of academic affairs approached the podium to welcome all in attendance to the awards ceremony. LaVergne took the time to congratulate the students on having such an accomplished year.
“The journey was a struggle but you have completed the challenge,” said LaVergne. “You set a goal and went above and beyond to achieve it and for that I want to congratulate you all.”
Vaughn’s President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo also offered her congratulations and best wishes to the graduating students.
“We are thrilled to have supported you on your educational journey and look forward to your continued success as Vaughn College alumni,” DeVivo said. “Be kind, be a good listener and be accountable as you move forward in your professional lives.”
This year’s student speaker is Edison Luo, who will be receiving his bachelor’s degree in airport management on Saturday, May 16. Luo spoke about the importance of having an education and the great opportunities acquired from attending Vaughn. Luo shared his memories of getting used to New York weather and reflected on his entire college career filled with unforgettable moments, endless study hours and friendships that flourished.
Vaughn will continue to celebrate students’ achievements at its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16.
