Vaughn Confirmed as FAA Training Partner
Vaughn College has been confirmed as a training partner by the Federal Aviation Administration, giving students and graduates in the associate of applied science and bachelor of science programs in electronic engineering technology, avionics concentration an inside track in obtaining internships and potential full-time employment with the organization.
The College was certified recently as a member of the FAA’s Technical Operations – Collegiate Training Initiative (TO-CTI), designed to enlist colleges, universities and technical schools in a recruiting partnership. The FAA reviewed Vaughn’s electronics engineering technology curriculum and determined that it met standards for knowledge, skills and abilities; representatives visited the campus on Feb. 28 and informed Vaughn in late March.
Vaughn is one of eight schools in the New York-New England area to be recognized as a training partner by the FAA.
“It’s significant,” Dr. Hossein Rahemi, chair of the engineering and technology departments, said. “With this accreditation, our students in electronic engineering technology programs are eligible for summer and during-year internships and more.”
The FAA’s technical operations department is responsible for the installation and maintenance of electronic systems used in air traffic control and other communications as well as radar, weather, navigation and environmental systems. Vaughn students who receive grades of “C” or better in 13 core courses will be eligible for employment consideration and potential on-the-job training in aviation maintenance positions upon graduation.
Potential positions include airway transportation systems specialist, computer systems specialist, electronics engineer and technician, environmental protection specialist and more.
