Vaughn College celebrated its 92nd commencement exercise on Saturday, May 18 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York with more than 200 graduates and their families in attendance for the conferring of master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees in engineering, technology, management and aviation as well as certificates in drones and safety management systems. The day began with a welcome from Dr. Paul LaVergne, vice president of academic affairs followed by President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo.

Captain Houston Mills, president of flight operations and safety for the United Parcel Service, was this year’s commencement speaker. Captain Mills, a former United States Marine Corps officer and F/A-18 fighter pilot, shared insights from his extensive aviation career and encouraged graduates to embrace opportunities with courage and resilience. In his address, Captain Mills commended Vaughn College’s dedication to transforming students’ lives through a comprehensive educational experience tailored to prepare them for a future of distinguished careers. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate.

Carla Vasquez Chavez ’24, electrical engineering graduate and this year’s student speaker, was honored with the prestigious Board of Trustees Award in recognition of her exceptional academic accomplishments and dedicated service to the institution. She reminded her fellow graduates to “be a factor not just a number.”
