Vaughn College Celebrated the Class of 2019 at 87th Commencement Ceremony
Vaughn College celebrated its 87th Commencement on Saturday, May 11 in the William R. DeCota Hangar with nearly 200 graduates and their families. The conferring of master’s, bachelor’s and associate degrees in engineering, technology, management and aviation began with a welcome from Dr. Paul LaVergne, vice president of academic affairs followed by President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo.
Scott C. Donnelly, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Textron, Inc. delivered the commencement address to was awarded an honorary degree by the College and delivered the commencement address.
Textron is one of the world’s best-known multi-industry companies, recognized for its powerful brands such as Bell, Cessna, Beechcraft, E-Z-GO, Arctic Cat and many more. The company leverages its global network of aircraft, defense, industrial and finance businesses to provide customers with innovative products and services.
“There is an old adage in the pilot profession – when you pass your check ride for your private pilot’s license the FAA examiner will tell you that this license is really just a license to learn… today – after a lot of hard work – you have all earned your diplomas,” said Donnelly. “I recommend that you take that same sage advice; you have terrific opportunities in front of you. Use them as great opportunities to continue to learn.”
President DeVivo closed the commencement ceremony by thanking the graduates for their contributions to the institution and wishing them well in the next chapter of their journey.
“Your accomplishments are forever linked to the success of Vaughn,” said DeVivo. “And our success provides you with a strong foundation from which to propel forward into a successful career and further education.”
