Vaughn Celebrates the Year of the Dog
Vaughn College celebrated Chinese New Year and the beginning of the year of the dog with a spirited celebration on Thursday, February 22. The student affairs event provided samplings of lucky new years foods to students at common hour in the main lobby, with a traditional lion dance performance by New York Jung Sing Woon (NYHSK). Attendees applauded the performance which involved participants feeding lettuce to the lion dancers.
“Students enjoy the celebrations that are held on campus, especially because it shows the range of the diversity on campus,” said Debra Cassidy ’21, student government association president. “Our student life is very inclusive and encourages a strong sense of community.
Chinese New Year was officially on Friday, February 16 and is also known as the Lunar New Year because the Chinese calendar runs on the moon phase and solar year.
