Vaughn Celebrates Ten Years of Hosting Manufacturing Day
The tenth annual Manufacturing Day Conference, hosted by the engineering and technology department, focused on advancements in engineering and technology industries by showcasing the manufacturers’ work, and raising awareness about career opportunities in these fields. Four industry experts, three of whom are alumni of the College, addressed participants regarding production of superconducting magnets, flexibility in automation design, additive manufacturing mass production, robotics in an engineering environment and more.
The presenters included Jason Becker ’20, mechatronics engineer for Brookhaven National Lab, Peter Kalaitzidis ’20, robotics program manager for the New York Power Authority, Misael Marquez ’22, mechatronics engineer for ArcBest Technologies and Spencer Loveless, chief executive officer for Dustless Technologies.
More than 70 students from Thomas Edison High School, Hillcrest High School, the Academy Charter High School in Uniondale and the Academy Charter High School in Hempstead attended the day and participated in hands-on events hosted by Vaughn students from the unmanned aerial vehicle club (UAV), robotics club and the National Society of Black Engineers’ student chapter. Visitors engaged in STEM workshops on building a drone, robotics design and autonomous programming, and a drone practice flying session.
