Guiding a young team to its second consecutive playoff appearance and nearly defeating St. Joseph’s College for a berth in the championship game earned Vaughn College basketball coach Amy Mulligan Hudson Valley Men’s Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors for 2010-2011.

Her fellow league coaches recognized Mulligan’s work in guiding the Warriors to a 12-12 overall record, 4-2 in the HVMAC. Her team entered last week’s conference tournament as the second seed, but lost, 73-61, to St. Joseph’s.

“It’s a great honor and a tribute to how hard the players competed this year,” Mulligan said. “We’re looking forward to even better things as we continue to generate interest in Vaughn basketball.”

Vaughn won five of its final seven games entering the conference tournament. It led St. Joseph’s by as many as eight points in the second half before its shooting went cold. The good news for Mulligan and Vaughn is that without a senior on the team, the entire squad is poised to return next season.
