Vaughn College was well-represented at the annual sectional meeting of the American Society of Engineering Education at Temple University. Professors Raymond Addabbo, Hossein Rahemi, Shouling He and Khalid Mouaouya and students Brian Linhares and Marlon Medford delivered papers at the Philadelphia conference, which took place Oct. 28-29 and focused on “Engineering Education for the Next Decade.”

Addabbo, a member of the arts and sciences department, discussed the “Integration of MATLAB in Engineering and Engineering Technology Curricula” with the gathering of scholars, students, educators and researchers. Addabbo’s paper demonstrates how an introductory programming course can improve student learning outcomes in engineering-related classes.

Meanwhile, Rahemi, He and Mouaouya, members of the engineering and technology faculty, presented their paper “Enhancing Students’ Hands-On Experience and Communications Capabilities Through Mechatronics Engineering Programs.” Their research explored how students can use communications and other skills to their best advantage given the cross-disciplinary nature of mechatronics.

Lastly, Linhares and Medford presented “Robotic Applications to Enhance Transportation Security,” detailing how robot technology can provide public security while maintaining an alarm-free environment.
