Vaughn College New Student Orientation

Congratulations on your decision to attend Vaughn College! We are excited to welcome you to the Vaughn community of learners. New student orientation is dedicated to supporting new students in their educational journey at Vaughn College and is designed to help you transition successfully to the Vaughn College community and get acquainted with campus resources and academics early in your college career.  

Orientation is the beginning of many milestones that you will have at Vaughn as you build your unique collegiate network of friends and future colleagues.  

All new students are required to complete orientation; new student orientation is pivotal to each student’s success from the beginning of their educational journey to graduation.  

 

New Student Orientation 

Attending Orientation enables you to get a good start to your Vaughn education. You will have the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the campus, meet some of your fellow classmates, unlock student-only systems, engage with staff members, and become connected with various resources that will help support you throughout your time here.

Dates: Thursday, June 27 OR Thursday, July 25

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.  (an enhanced overnight experience is available until we reach program capacity)

Location: Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, 86-01 23rd Ave, Flushing, NY 11369

Activities Include:

  • Student Life Summary: Connect with faculty, staff, and orientation leaders to learn what to expect about your experience
  • Information Sessions: Learn about academic programs, student services, and all the fun of campus life.
  • Financial Planning: Participate in an interactive session on financial expectations
  • Social Events: Enjoy trivia, delicious food, and entertainment to kick off your college experience.
  • Take Care of Business: Need to schedule meetings with an academic advisor or complete any final steps standing in the way of class registration? Accomplish that here!

New Student Resources

We’ve made orientation materials accessible on our learning management platform D2L. By completing NSO, you’ll experience what a typical course looks like, form relationships with other online learners, and learn about tools and resources available to you as a Vaughn College student, tips and strategies to best navigate the campus. Whether you are a first year or transfer student each module will be applicable to you as they are focused on the Vaughn experience.

Is New Student Orientation Mandatory? 

Yes, orientation is a mandatory program for all new students. We believe that orientation plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition and a successful start to your college experience. By participating in orientation, you will gain essential knowledge, resources, and connections that will support your academic and personal growth. 

Do you have a check list?

Yes, our checklist is available on D2L and the parent portal. 

How Do You Access Orientation?  

You can find our online Orientation resource on Vaughn College’s learning management system, D2L. D2L  is the platform many of our faculty use and where the majority of your coursework will be located.  This is a great opportunity for you to get comfortable using D2L. You will receive access details and instructions via Vaughn email.  Only enrolled students will have access to orientation.

Vaughn complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and is committed to ensuring that all students are able to fully participate in new student orientation. If there are questions or concerns about how we will deliver orientation content or if you will require accommodations for placement assessments or your advising session, please contact Frank Wang at .  

 

Immunization Compliance

  • To comply with New York State Public Health Law $ 2165, all students taking six (6) credits or more MUST provide proof of immunization to measles, mumps, and rubella;     

  • To comply with health guidance for a congregate setting, resident students must additionally provide proof of 

    • Vaccination against meningococcal meningitis 

    • At least one bivalent dose of the COVID-19 Vaccination 

To maintain a safe environment for learning and living on campus that adheres to both legal compliance and public health guidance. 

Students upon entering the College are expected to provide required documentation as part of New Student Orientation prior to moving into the residence hall or the first day of classes, whichever is the student’s first appearance on campus.
