A Degree for the Future of Computer Engineering

With the rapid development of technology in the information era, the ever-growing field of computer engineering demands well-trained individuals for a broad range of computing industries.

Vaughn’s degree program was designed to give students the knowledge and skills necessary to play an important role in the technologies that define modern-day life and society.

The computer engineering curriculum emphasizes two well-defined concentrations: cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming, computer algorithms, networking, systems security and addresses the multi-disciplinary nature of the field. This program provides students with a solid foundation in mathematics, physical sciences, and computer programming. The course of study trains students to use their skills and knowledge to solve specific problems and ultimately to design systems according to the specified criteria for performing the specific functions set by the project objectives. Furthermore, students in this program will be exposed to industry-related experiences through undergraduate research and internships opportunities.

Every industry—ranging from banking to utility companies to government organizations—has come to depend on the world’s cyber infrastructure in order to operate. As a result, over the past decade, cyber attacks have escalated worldwide. The need for computer engineers who are trained and specialize in cybersecurity are in great demand. How great? It has been reported that approximately 1.8 million cybersecurity-related positions worldwide will go unfilled by the year 2022 and Vaughn College is answering this call with the establishment of its computer engineering program.

WHAT YOU'LL STUDY

The goal of the computer engineering degree is to provide students with a solid background in software and hardware programming, computer programming, computer algorithms, artificial intelligence, networking and systems security.

The program will expose you to topics including hardware, computer networking, cybersecurity, and telecommunications design, and developing new components and systems for the technical challenges we face now and for the future. The technical challenges of today are even greater due to a relatively new but very important specialty: cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

Students will study theory and experience hands-on technical work, involving computing projects that will enhance their skills in critical thinking and problem-solving. Additionally, students will also be required to participate in research projects, where they will present their findings at technical conferences and learn about real-world challenges they will face as professional computer engineers.
