The study of aviation maintenance also prepares students to install, assemble, diagnose and maintain the high-tech equipment that power today’s transportation, energy and defense systems. Aviation Training Institute graduates have been recruited by telecommunications companies as well as transportation firms and public utilities.
The bachelor of science in aviation maintenance management is designed to broaden the perspective of the aviation professional and prepare him or her for management positions in the industry. The program builds upon a solid technical foundation in aviation maintenance with courses that include accounting, business communications, industry and labor relations and other 21st-century management essentials.
The aviation maintenance certificate and associate in occupational studies degree in aviation maintenance can be obtained in four semesters of study, which can be completed in as few as 16 months. Some students prefer to study part-time and we also work with those students to balance their work schedules with academic pursuits. After such time students can sit for their FAA written, oral and practical exams. The associate in applied science degree in aviation maintenance can be obtained with an additional 39 credits, which can be completed in one year after receiving an FAA airframe and powerplant certificate. The bachelor of science in aviation maintenance requires a total of 127 credits and can be completed in as little as three years after receiving an A and P certificate.
A General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required; our counselors may be able to assist you if a GED is not held.

Residence Life and Housing
No. The residence hall’s capacity is approximately 185 residential students. Therefore, housing is available on first-come, first-served basis, provided that the student has been admitted to Vaughn College, has submitted a complete student housing application and has paid the $250 housing deposit. The student will also need to provide a photocopy of a health insurance card on move-in day, as health insurance is required for all resident students.
Each student is required to submit a $250 housing deposit when completing a housing application. The $250 fee will be kept on file to be used towards any excess damages left in your room upon your move-out. If you cancel housing in writing prior to July 1, for the fall semester, or January 1, for the spring semester, the $250 housing deposit will be refunded. After these dates, the deposit is not refunded for housing cancellations.
Please see the Residence Hall Rates and Fees section of the Vaughn College Semester Tuition and Fees page.
In the fall, the residence hall generally opens during the weekend prior to the beginning of classes. However, there are specific move-in dates for new residents versus returning residents, as well as for international students. In the spring and summer semesters, move-in is generally 24 hours before the start of classes. Each academic year’s dates and move-in procedures may vary, so please refer to your Vaughn email for notices from the Office of Residence Life and Housing regarding your move-in. For questions, contact .
Generally, there are two students assigned to a room. Singles are awarded on a limited basis and to those students who demonstrate a medical need for one. All double and single rooms in our residence hall are connected to another bedroom within a suite and have a shared bathroom and closet space. Triples and quads for three and four residents, respectively, are extremely limited and do not share a bathroom or closet with another bedroom. Each room/suite is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the suite areas and their bathroom.
The building is monitored 24 hours a day/seven days a week by security cameras positioned on the outside and inside of the residence. Additionally, a security officer is present at the front desk every day/all day. They, in turn, can contact on-duty staff for urgent situations that may arise when offices are closed.
The rooms are set up with a bed (twin extra-long), desk, chair and chest of drawers for each resident. Blinds are provided for all windows. Rooms are not carpeted. Area rugs are allowed.
No. The entire hall is non-smoking. This includes cigarettes, cigars, aromatic cigarettes, herbal cigars, burning incense, and vaping of any kind. Students can smoke outside in designated areas away from the residence hall access doors.
Yes. Meal plans are mandatory for all resident students. Meal plan options will be made available on or before July 11, 2022.
Our all-suite style residence hall ensures that each resident has access to a semi-private full bathroom within their suite. Additionally, the 185-bed three-level building is equipped with a full kitchen and television lounge on the lobby level, a multi-purpose classroom on the second floor for student use, a fitness center on the third floor and two laundry rooms on the second and third floors.
Though Vaughn College is part of one of the largest and busiest cities in the world, we take pride in our small community as expressed by practicing our Core Values: demonstrating integrity, embracing diversity, practicing collaboration, achieving impact and choosing courage. We pride ourselves on being a safe and secure campus and expect that all resident students will contribute to this effort by:
- Carrying their Vaughn College identification cards―the residence hall is accessible by card access enabled through each ID card
- Being considerate to fellow resident students
- Keeping noise levels within a reasonable limit to allow them to focus on their studies
- Understanding that the building promotes substance-free living
It is strongly recommended that students obtain renter’s insurance. Vaughn is not responsible for any theft, loss or damage of the personal property of its students.
When classes are in session on weekdays, the residence life office is staffed during daytime hours by professionals led by a director who holds a master’s degree. There are resident assistants (RAs)―trained student leaders who serve on-duty in the evenings (Monday through Friday) and weekends. The RAs also plan events which provide opportunities where resident students can socialize and learn about a variety of topics related to college life. The residence life team lives in the building. Additionally, there is a security guard in the lobby and a facilities manager who will respond to maintenance concerns.
The building entrance is staffed, 24-hours a day, by a trained security guard when classes are in session. Each room is equipped with a smoke detector and a CO2 detector. There are fire extinguishers and a sprinkler system in the hallways and common areas, and fire drills are scheduled several times during the year. Additionally, there are security cameras on the exterior of the building and inside common areas.
The residence hall has a different address than that of the main college and should be used to place in GPS for driving directions, as well as to route mail, packages and food deliveries. The residence hall address is: 22-40 90th Street East Elmhurst, NY 11369
Students should bring an identification card with their name and picture on it to be presented at check-in. Every resident must bring a copy―front and back―of their valid health insurance card, or the card itself and we will copy if for you. Each double room has two beds, two desks, two chairs and two sets of drawers. Students should not bring in nor remove furniture. A list of items to bring and to leave at home is sent with each housing assignment. Additionally, the to-do list will include medications, linen/sheets, a pillow, toiletries, school supplies, a lamp, clothes, laundry detergent, non-perishable food and aplastic container to store non-perishable food, among other items.
The cost-per-semester varies depending on the room type, although most new residents will be placed in double rooms. Additionally, each resident is required to have a meal plan. Please see the Residence Hall Rates and Fees section of the Vaughn College Semester Tuition and Fees page.
New students may apply for housing after their enrollment in a Vaughn College educational program. Returning students should reapply for housing after they have registered for classes for the next term. Students are encouraged to apply for housing and pay the deposit listed on the application as early as possible for the best opportunity to receive a room assignment.
To maximize the opportunity to accommodate students who choose to live on campus, single rooms are not generally offered; however, after the first two weeks of any semester, students may be given the opportunity to have a single if space permits. Students would need to have their financial accounts adjusted to be billed at a higher single room rate. If you are interested in a single room, contact .

Distance learning allows a student to have the same opportunity to learn regardless of his or her geographic location. Programs and courses are offered through the internet or by video in a format taught by a qualified faculty member. Learning materials, resources and assignments are all presented online and in an asynchronous method. On-campus attendance is not required.
Vaughn College will evaluate transfer credit from other colleges and universities. An official transcript should be submitted. Generally, a grade of C or better is required for a course to be accepted for transfer credit.
If you have web access, you can reach Vaughn’s course materials and assignments. That’s the flexibility an online course offers. You can take it anywhere you go!
Vaughn’s online classes mirror the schedules offered on campus. Fall and spring terms are 16 weeks in duration, and two six-week summer sessions are also offered.
