Dr. Miguel Bustamante, assistant professor of engineering and technology – was recognized at El Diario’s 2024 EL Awards ceremony, held on October 25 in New York city. Bustamante was among 21 influential Hispanic men honored for their significant contributions to their communities and commitment to inspiring the next generation.

El Diario, the oldest Spanish-language daily newspaper in the United States, has celebrated Latino excellence through its EL Awards for two decades. This year’s honorees, chosen from community nominations and selected by El Diario’s editorial team, represent fields ranging from civil rights and education to public health and business. Each recipient’s dedication to their profession and positive impact on society aligns with El Diario’s mission to uplift Hispanic voices and highlight contributions across the community.

Reflecting on his journey from Barranquilla, Colombia, to his academic achievements, Bustamante expressed pride in his role as an educator at Vaughn College. His ongoing work as director of Vaughn’s Title V grant project demonstrates his commitment to expanding STEM education for Hispanic and low-income students.

In addition to Bustamante’s individual recognition, Vaughn College was a sponsor of this year’s EL Awards, affirming its commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion within and beyond its campus.
