Jason L. Riley Discusses Border Regulation with the Vaughn Community
The Vaughn College arts and sciences department continued the fall 2018 speaker series with Jason L. Riley on Thursday, October 8. Riley is the author of “Let Them In: The Case for Open Borders,” this year’s Vaughn common reading selection. He serves as a member of The Wall Street Journal editorial board and is a recipient of the 2018 Bradley Prize, awarded to public leaders defending American constitutional principles in the national arena.
“My primary goal in writing this book was to offer a rebuttal to some of the more common anti-immigrant arguments that I’ve come across while covering the issue as a Wall Street Journal editorialist,” Riley emphasized in his book.
Riley also discussed his experiences writing for the highly circulated newspaper, and urged students to keep a critical perspective on political narratives. More than 100 students attended the lecture and were able to ask questions following his remarks.
“Students strengthen the sense of community campus-wide through sharing, in books like Let Them In,” said Margaret Ducharme, chair of the arts and sciences department.
