Vaughn Professor to Address International Conference
Vaughn College’s Professor Jeff Surovell has been selected to speak at a key global studies conference in istanbul, Turkey June 15-17.
Surovell, a member of the College’s arts and sciences faculty, will present a paper titled “Soviet Policy Toward Third World Reactionary Regimes” at the Central and East European International Studies Association’s annual conference. The conference brings together international relations scholars from 20 countries.
The topic of this year’s conference is “Inequalities, Conflicts and Solidarity in the 21st Century.” Among other things, Surovell’s paper examines the lasting impact of 20th century Soviet-era policies and to what degree the willingness to embrace regimes at odds with communism was rooted in foreign policy pragmatism.
