William J. McGee, Aviation Journalist and Author, Speaks at Vaughn
Many faculty and students were in attendance on Friday, October 5 to hear William J. McGee speak about his recently-released book entitled, Attention All Passengers: The Airlines’ Dangerous Descent – and How to Reclaim Our Skies.
The aviation journalist and author, who referred to himself as an “aviation geek,” described the different aspects of his career in the industry and read excerpts from his book. His talk touched on many aspects of the airline industry including safety issues, outsourcing and the airlines relationship with the FAA.
McGee who is very familiar with Vaughn College, having grown up just six blocks away, expressed his excitement about speaking to Vaughn faculty and students. “I was most looking forward to this talk because I knew I’d be speaking to a very knowledgeable audience about a complex issue.”
The U.S. Secretary of Transportation in 2010 chose McGee to be the lone consumer advocate on the Future of Aviation Advisory Committee. He writes a monthly travel column for USAToday.com and has contributed to Condé Nast Traveler, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Money and New York. Prior to becoming a journalist, McGee spent nearly seven years in airline flight operations management; he is an FAA-licensed aircraft dispatcher and served in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
